FAQ

MISSION, STORY, PHILOSOPHY

Why choose Inclusive Imagination games?

Inclusive Imagination designs games where accessibility, creativity, and community come together. By including braille, tactile design, and inclusive gameplay mechanics, these games allow players of different abilities to share the same experience.

The goal is simple: everyone deserves a place at the game table.

Why did you create Inclusive Imagination?
Founded by Garrett Whitmyre, a special educator, COMS, and TBLVL teacher, the company solves a common problem: traditional games often exclude blind or low-vision players. Inclusive Imagination designs games everyone can play, combining accessibility, tactile play, and imagination.

What is the company philosophy?
Games should be fun, social, and inclusive. Accessibility is not an afterthought — it’s part of the design from the start. Braille, tactile, and assistive technology integration ensures all players share the same experience.

What is Inclusive Imagination?

Inclusive Imagination creates accessible tabletop games and learning tools designed so people of all abilities can play together.

Our games use universal design, meaning accessibility is built directly into the game instead of added later. Game components are designed so that players can access information through visual, tactile, and digital methods.

Accessibility features may include:

  • Print and braille on game components
  • High-contrast visual design
  • Tactile gameplay elements
  • QR codes linking to image descriptions
  • Assistive technology compatibility

The goal is simple: everyone should be able to sit at the same table and play the same game.

Why did you create accessible games?

Inclusive Imagination was founded by Garrett Whitmyre, a special educator who works with blind and low-vision learners as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) and Teacher of Blind and Low-Vision Learners.

While working with students and families, one thing became clear: many games rely entirely on visual information. This means some players must rely on others to read cards or explain game elements, which removes independence from the experience.

Games are meant to bring people together socially. When accessibility barriers exist, players can feel excluded from something that should be joyful and shared.

Inclusive Imagination was created to change that. By designing games with braille, tactile elements, and accessible design from the beginning, players with different abilities can participate equally.

The mission is to show that accessibility, imagination, and beautiful design can exist together.

What games can blind and sighted players play together?

Games designed with braille and visual text allow blind and sighted players to access the same information. Inclusive tabletop games focus on shared experiences rather than separate versions for different players.

ACCESSIBLE GAMES

What are accessible board games?

Accessible board games are games designed so that players with different abilities can participate equally. These games often include features like braille, tactile components, high-contrast design, and clear layouts so players can access information in multiple ways.

What makes a board game accessible?

Accessible board games include design features that allow people with different sensory or physical abilities to play. This may include braille text, tactile symbols, large print, accessible digital components, or assistive technology compatibility.

What are inclusive tabletop games?

Inclusive tabletop games are designed so players with different abilities, backgrounds, and experience levels can participate together. Inclusive design focuses on removing barriers so everyone can enjoy the same gameplay experience.

Are there games designed for blind players?

Yes. Some games are designed specifically with tactile and braille elements so blind players can access game information independently. These features allow blind, low-vision, and sighted players to enjoy the same game together.

How do blind people play board games?

Blind players may use braille labels, tactile markings, audio descriptions, or screen reader technology depending on the game. Games designed with tactile and braille elements allow players to identify cards, pieces, or dice through touch.

BRAILLE GAMES & DICE

Are there board games with braille?

Yes. Some modern tabletop games include braille alongside printed text so blind players can read game information independently. This approach supports braille literacy while allowing sighted and blind players to play together.

What are braille games?

Braille games are games that include braille text on cards, dice, or game components. These games allow braille readers to access information through touch while sighted players read the printed text.

Can games help teach braille?

Yes. Games can support braille learning by placing braille in fun and meaningful contexts. When players encounter braille during gameplay, they become more comfortable exploring tactile reading patterns.

What are braille learning games?

Braille learning games are games that include braille elements designed to encourage tactile exploration. These games are often used in classrooms or homes to support braille literacy through play.

Why is braille important?

Braille is a tactile reading system that allows people who are blind or have low vision to read and write independently. Braille literacy supports education, employment opportunities, and access to information.

What are braille dice?

Braille dice include raised braille characters along with printed numbers, allowing players to identify dice results visually or through touch. This makes gameplay more accessible for blind and low-vision players.

Are there accessible dice for tabletop games?

Yes. Accessible dice may include braille markings, tactile symbols, or high-contrast numbers so players can identify results independently.

What are tactile dice?

Tactile dice include raised markings that allow players to read dice results through touch. Braille dice are one example of tactile dice used in accessible tabletop games.

Where can I buy braille dice?

Braille dice are not widely available in traditional game stores. Some accessible game designers, such as Inclusive Imagination, create dice that include both printed numbers and braille for inclusive gameplay.

What are polyhedral braille dice?

Polyhedral braille dice are multi-sided dice commonly used in tabletop role-playing games that include braille markings. These dice allow tactile and visual readers to identify dice results independently.

ADAPTIVE GAMING

What games can people with physical disabilities play?

Games can be made accessible using adaptive switches, eye-gaze technology, or alternative input devices, allowing players with limited mobility to participate independently.

What are adaptive switch games?

These games are controlled using switches that can be activated by hands, head, foot, sip-and-puff, or other inputs. Switch-accessible games make gameplay independent for players with limited motor control.

What is switch-accessible gaming?

Switch-accessible games are designed to work entirely through one or more adaptive switches, often used by players with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, or other mobility limitations.

Can games be played using eye-gaze technology?

Yes. Eye-gaze systems track where a player is looking and translate that into game controls. This enables independent play for users with very limited mobility.

What are accessible games for AAC users?

Games that integrate alternative communication devices (AAC), switch scanning, or eye-gaze input allow players to participate fully using assistive technology.

What is Access Arcade?

Access Arcade is a digital platform for adaptive switch, eye-gaze, and AAC accessible gaming. It provides simple, engaging gameplay that allows players with physical disabilities to enjoy interactive games.
